Constituent Assembly and Indian Constitution

1-     The Constitution of India first enacted on 26^th November 1949.

2-     It came into force on 26^th January 1950.

3-     The Constituent Assembly had been created the Constitution under the Cabinet Mission plan in November, 1946.

4-     There were 395 Articles and 8 Schedules at the time of final processing of the Constitution.

5-     At present the Constitution of India consists of 444 Articles and 12 Schedules.

6-     The members of Constituent Assembly were elected from different provinces in the ratio of one member per one million populations.

7-     There were 389 members in the Constituent Assembly, among whom 296 members were elected from Provincial Assemblies and others were nominated from Princely States.

8-     The first meeting of Constituent Assembly was held on 9^th December, 1946 under the presidency of Sachidananda Sinha.

9-     Later on Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the president of Constituent Assembly on 11^th December, 1946.

10-The Historic “Objective Resolution” was move into the Constituent Assembly on 13^th December, 1946 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Later it became the Preamble of Indian Constitution.

11-There were 13 committees were established for the framing of Indian Constitution.

12- The Drafting Committee of the constitution established on 29^th August, 1947 and it was consisted 7 members with B.R. Ambedkar as Chairman of this committee.

13-The Constitution of India was created mainly on the basis of 3 Phase: -    

    (A) 1^st Phase - It was under the control of Cabinet Mission Plan, from 6^th December 1946 to 14^th August 1947.

    (B) 2^nd Phase – The Constituent Assembly was a Sovereign body + Provisional Parliament, from 15^th August, 1947 to 26^th November, 1949.

    (C) 3^rd Phase – It was a Sovereign body, from 27^th November, 1949 to March, 1952.

14- The Constituent Assembly took 2 year 11 months and 18 days to frame the Constitution.

15- The design of National Flag of India was prepared on 22^nd July, 1947.

16- The National Anthem of India “Janagana Mana” was adopted on 24^th January, 1950.

17- Dr. B.N. Rau was the legal advisor of the Constituent Assembly.

18- The first meeting of Constituent Assembly was boycotted by Muslim League.
